– Freedom is the cornerstone of the Montessori method and is indeed a complicated achievement which requires two areas to explore and consider. The Montessori method is based on scientific studies and discoveries of Dr. Maria Montessori which formed her own Montessori philosophy.
Children’s Psychology
■ The areas we must consider and further explore is the psychology of the children and the right environment to help achieve their ultimate growth. The psychology of the child is the most important and is the area of study we must put the most attention to. Psychology is so important because if corresponds to mental health. Without having your mental health is almost impossible to do anything in life. We want our children to be mentally healthy and that’s why we pay close attention to every child and make sure everything is OK. Our main goal is to make our children independent so they feel confident and motivated to learn themselves at their own pace.
■ We want to share the knowledge with our parents so they raise their children the right way because their child’s growth is mostly depended on them. Parents often spoil their children and then they impose themselves on them which causes confusion to the child and then it discourage him/her. We want our children to feel confident and not discouraged so that they can develop their freewill and self esteem. This requires time and consistency. When the child feels confident enough about his/her own abilities then he/she can start learning and exploring the world which makes him/her independent and more mature.
Prepared Environment
The second area of study is the prepared environment. We want our children to reach the highest levels of their growth and at the same time help them move freely and trigger their creativity and the feeling of harmony. We accomplish that by following the Montessori philosophy and creating an environment that is properly designed, that has a natural feeling and that is more peaceful and calming. We make sure all children are aware of the classroom rules and that all the teaching materials are placed in order in each subject area accordingly. The children choose the material they want to work with and after they are done, they return the material back to it’s original place. That helps the children find the materials more easily and they develop the understanding of order and courtesy. By doing this the children can move freely and independently without the teacher getting in their way and they can self learn, self correct and self improve.
– Freedom is very important for our children to have, which allows them to view and experience life on their own and eventually grow more naturally at their own pace. Our main goal is to build independent minds that are confident enough in their own abilities, that they have a more clear understanding of each subject and prepare them for the real world later in life. We hope that our independent minds will be the ones to find solutions to our problems in the near future and can build a better world for humanity. Our children is our future!
