At our kindergarten, we blend fun and creativity seamlessly, fostering an environment where children explore, learn, and grow through imaginative play and engaging activities.
This approach allows children to stay with the same teachers and same group of children for three consecutive years.
The Montessori curriculum prepares children for school and life.
The Montessori timetable of our school is divided into two age groups: 2-3 and 3-6 years old.
The Montessori philosophy is based on supporting the full development of the child as it progresses from birth to adulthood. It takes the broad vision of education as an aid to life. As a way of teaching, Montessori offers the view that knowledge is not acquired passively by listening to words. Rather, it is acquired through experiences in the environment. Therefore, the Montessori approach uses a prepared classroom to inspire children in a lifelong love of learning.
The qualities of the prepared classroom include: structure, order, freedom of movement, and freedom of choice. Within this structured space, children learn through hands-on experiences. Particularly relevant are the beautifully crafted Montessori educational materials that children work with to make independent learning discoveries.
Children are guided in their learning by Montessori teachers, who act as a link between the children and the prepared environment. The role of the teacher is to prepare the class, observe and guide the children in learning. As a result, children progress at their own pace, according to their abilities.
Through the activities in the Montessori environment, children learn to develop concentration, self-discipline and a love of learning. Our Small Human Montessori educational program applies the Montessori educational approach to help children reach their full potential.
Finally, by valuing each child as an individual, we empower our children to gain self-confidence and become fully independent.
Something that Maria Montessori said: «Help me to do it myself»
The story of the Small Human Montessori kindergarten begins with the search for an approach that offers quality childcare. This journey led one person to discover the benefits of Montessori education, ultimately leading to the decision to found Small Human Montessori Kindergarten.
The founder of the Small Human Montessori kindergarten, Mrs. Yria Sotiropoulou, got to know the Montessori approach for the first time during her studies. Yria got to know the Montessori approach, initially, as a theory of education in her degree: "Educational Sciences, Pre-Primary" at the University of Cyprus. Impressed by what she heard and saw, Yria decided to visit some Greek and Italian Montessori kindergartens.
When she first arrived at a Montessori preschool, she didn't know what to expect. However, as she learned more about the philosophy, this uncertainty was replaced by a feeling of excitement and confidence in the effectiveness of the educational approach. She observed children learning complex concepts using Montessori materials. By using these toy-like materials, it appeared that the children were taught in an enjoyable experiential way.
The teachers observed the children in the activities, the children's learning and intervened only when they needed help. It is worth noting that each child was fully engaged in his own activities. The result was a peaceful and harmonious classroom where children loved to learn.
After completing her tour, Yria had no doubt that Montessori was the right choice for her dream. All the views she had until that moment on the education of children aged 0-6, came and tied with the Montessori approach and she had set a life goal to establish a Standard Greek-speaking Montessori Kindergarten in Nicosia. She studied this approach over time, trained theoretically and practically and secured certification in the Montessori approach.
The Small Human Montessori kindergarten started its operation in September 2023 and is approved by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor of Cyprus.
